Mrs.Green's find of the Day

Southland and the 4 day school week
This article relates to the ones we read in class about schools going to the 4 day week. It is interesting that a local school is considering it. The article talks about MACCRAY which is the school we read about; it says their test scores went up which was a concern in the other article we read. This idea seems to be growing because now there are 8 other districts considering it...but there are over 300 districts in MN, so it is a small number, but growing. I still wonder what role online teaching will play in this change...

AARON WIX'S FIND OF THE YEAR!
Sackrison shooting for Wisconsin series

I think that this article could really hurt the Mavericks. Having the player play in anther game could really affect how his leg regrows. Unless University of Wisconsin is a really tough team to play, I think he would be fine playing a few shifts just to get his leg used to getting back into the sport! The coach Troy Jutting said he is tempted to put in Sackrison, if it were playoff he would most likely put him in!

Disease Mongering Galore: Panel Says ALL Teens Should be Screened for "Depression"
Researches think that all teens should get tested for depression because it is so common in teens that sometimes you can't even tell. There have been many cases where teens go undiagnosed because they didn't get tested. Since 2002 they have been diagnosing depression in children between the ages of 7 to 18, and also on the effectiveness of different treatments. They think that all children between the ages of 12 and 18 should receive yearly screening, during a regular annual physical.

MADISON'S QUESTION FOR ERIKA: why are they only screening children between the ages of 7 to 18, why not younger or older ?

Teen prescription drug abuse on the rise, study finds
Up to one out of every five teenagers has abused prescription or over-the-counter drugs. One in 10 teens have abused these drugs within the past year. The most common abused drugs are : narcotic painkillers, including OxyContin and Vicodin, stimulants prescribed for Attention Deficit Disorder, such as Adderral and Ritalin, and anti-anxiety drugs such as Xanax. More Orange County youths between the ages of 12 and 25 died from overdoses of prescription and over-the-counter drugsbetween 2005 and 2007 than died from abuse of street drugs. People may be more likely to fatally overdose on prescription and over-the-counter drugs because they falsely presume to be safer than street drugs. According to the University of Calilfornia the number of home deaths caused by prescription and over-the-counter drugs has increased 700 percent in the last 20 years.

Bri- why do you think they are on the rise? like pure pressure os is that just the new thing?
